Take a look at my Monkey….

Now. Don’t hate me. I’m still typing this on my MacBook. I still want an iPod Touch.
I still dig Apple.
But I switched browser. Safari is no longer my default browser.

Firefox has a small furry secret for all of us in the Flickr Fraternity….

This small slippery primate is Greasemonkey and is a plugin for Firefox that
Allows you to customize the way a webpage displays using small bits of JavaScript. …

Not much clearer? Well some of these customisations really help if you are a heavy Flickr user (I’m at least 20 a day…).

You can get Firefox from Mozilla
You can get Greasemonkey from here
and there is a great repository for Flickr related addons here

I should note that you PC users aren’t left out. Firefox and all of the Greasemonkey addons are primarily written on PC..

So here’s my favourite Greasemonkey addons for Flickr that I use almost constantly..

1) FlickrPM

This addon adds some really useful links next to any Flickr username you come across.
The links include Flickrmail, User profile, Faves, Flickr Scout, Flickr DNA, Most interesting Shots and Photo archive. This is a great way to instantly jump to some of the most used things on Flickr - because lets face it - who doesn’t check Explore every now and again. One click Flickrmail is very useful too..

FlickrPM

Don’t forget, this doesn’t just appear next to your username but any Flickr member and not just on their front pages but in all discussion entries and comments. Very handy…

2) Flickr Easy Photo Post

I’m an active member on a number of Flickr groups and often have the need to post photos to group discussions … In normal Flickr world, you would have to go to the all sizes, select the size, then copy the HTML code then go to the discussion and paste the code in the thread.

Pretty long winded and involves nasty code! This addon makes that process really simple.

It remembers the last 15 pictures you have visited and then adds a “Post a Photo” link to every comment box and discussion box. You can then choose a photo from the thumbnails and a size to post and with two clicks - job done!

Post a Photo

3) Photo Rank

Are you an Explore whore? Can’t help yourself.. Wanna know the second your shot hits the archives or see if you friends shots are in there so that you can be first to congratulate them? Well this script does just that and appears along with the EXIF and date properties with each photo.

Interesting & Rank

Wheee! This one is at #87 cool! Oh and the link takes you to the Explore page so you can see who’s hogging the slots above you!

4) How Interesting?

At number 4 on our countdown of my fave Greasemonkey addons is this. How interesting are you photos relative to one another. Check to see how popular certain shots are and which ones are hot and which are not! This also appears along with the EXIF and date properties with each photo and is shown in the image above .. the link “Check Interesting Ranking”

5) And at number 5… Well there isn’t a five just yet… I’ve just realised I pretty much just use these 4.. But that’s enough to be going on with. Maybe I’ll add some more to a later post!

Happy Flickring!
